Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors related to person-centered care among care workers at long-term care facilities.
Methods: The participants were 123 care workers employed at 10 nursing homes. Data were collected from April 23 to May 6, 2020 using questionnaires for person-centered care, organizational culture, empathy, and communication competence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression.
Results: The average age of participants was 60.10 years old, 98.4% were female, and the average working experience was 55.17 months. The factors influencing person-centered care were innovation-oriented culture (¥â=.29, p=.003) and empathy (¥â=.24, p=.008). The explanatory power was 41.0% (Adj R2=.41, F=13.05, p<.001).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to manage the innovation-oriented culture by helping care workers adapt and encourage motivation. In addition, it is necessary to develop and implement educational programs to improve care workers¡¯ empathy.
